At approximately 0200, March 15, 2024, a Coffey County Sheriff's Deputy initiated a routine traffic stop when a vehicle driven by Robert Allen Carpenter Jr. was observed to be traveling at an excessive rate of speed heading south on Highway 75 through Coffey County.  

During the traffic stop, the suspect attempted to elude police by speeding away from the officer, in turn, beginning a multi-county, multi-jurisdictional police chase through Coffey County and south in to Woodson and Wilson Counties. The chase eventually came to a safe conclusion in Fredonia.

 The suspect is being held in Coffey County Jail on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, interference with a law enforcement officer, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, driving while revoked, and littering. 

The Coffey County Sheriff's Office would like to thank Burlington Police Department, Woodson County Sheriff's Office, Yates Center Police Department, Wilson County Sheriff's Office and Fredonia Police Department for their assistance which brought the chase to a safe conclusion and apprehension of the suspect.
