The primary function of the Detective Division is to apprehend those offenders who elude arrest at the hands of the patrol unit and to investigate incidents and offenses such as: death cases, sex offenses, violent felony offenses, burglary and stolen property offenses, and controlled substance offenses.
Cases are reviewed by a Lieutenant Detective and screened for solvability factors. Detectives are then assigned cases based on those solvability factors. Detectives from specialized units are assigned to investigate crimes on the bases of their expertise.
The duties of the detective unit supplement those of the uniformed Patrol Unit, and they work closely with surrounding agencies sharing information so that crimes can be worked more efficiently.
