Coffey County SRT-

11/21/2023

Coffey County SRT stands for Special Response Team. We are a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of several law enforcement agencies in our area.

SRT draws the toughest, and often, the most dangerous assignments.  They are called into service with little notice, on any day, at any hour. The very nature of the assignments they are tasked with requires that deputies and officers with aspirations to serve on SRT undergo a rigorous selection process and that they regularly and vigorously train for every possible scenario and situation that might present itself.

They are a dedicated team of selected personnel prepared for successfully resolving critical incidents exceeding the capabilities of law enforcement first responders. SRT members are trained in the use of advanced tactics and specialized weapons/equipment to allow them to effectively handle difficult and dynamic situations to include hostage rescue, armed barricaded subjects, high-risk search warrants, and violent fugitive apprehensions.

The equipment used includes armored vehicles such as the legendary Lenco Bear, Drone technology, dynamic breaching techniques and tools, chemical deployment systems, ballistic shields and armor and noise flash diversion devices among many other tools. SRT utilizes highly trained and skilled individuals with long range weapon capabilities and negotiators.

SRT can be called upon to serve a high-risk narcotics search warrants in the morning and find themselves in the middle of an armed hostage situation later that afternoon.

Dealing with the unexpected in high-stress situations is just another day in the office for a member of the team. SRT conducts high-risk search warrants which often require forced entry and the use of dynamic tactics, specialized tools and weapon platforms. They also respond to "critical incidents" often involving violent and dangerous subjects.

The goal for every team member during a critical incident is to save lives and apprehend a suspect or suspects. The objective of every operation is the preservation of life.
