BAIL BONDSMAN SCAM ALERT

The Coffey County Sheriff's Office has been notified of a scam affecting families of incarcerated individuals in our area.  

The SCAM: 

An individual calls a family member of someone incarcerated in our facility stating they are from Coffey County Pre-Trial Court Services and can be used as an alternative to utilizing a bail bondsman to bond their incarcerated love one out of jail. 

THE RED FLAG: 

The individual then states that you will need to send them $1,200 in order to get the incarcerated individual out of jail.  

BE AWARE: 

The Coffey County Sheriff's Office does not provide alternative solutions to bailing any incarcerated individual out of our facility.  We have a set list of approved bail bondsman that is determined by District Court at the beginning of the year. (CLICK HERE FOR A LIST OF APPROVED BONDING AGENCIES) These bondsman meet you at the Coffey County Sheriff's Office where paperwork is signed and cash is exchanged directly with the approved bail bond agency before the inmate is released.  

The Coffey County Sheriff's Office will not call you directly regarding bail bond solutions, and will never require you to send money to us on behalf of a Coffey County affiliated agency.  

Please keep yourself safe by never providing personal information over the phone, never providing payment information over the phone to unknown individuals, agencies, or businesses, and always verifying a call like this by hanging up and calling the relevant business or agency directly to question it.
